Pattern or Perfection in life

We’re all born perfect,

and…

then we make all these decisions in life.

The choices we make, the path we follow, the relationships we get into, ultimately wind up making us less than perfect.

With all of this, I feel life isn’t any different than a Rubik’s Cube. Initially, all the squares line up and after a while, they just don’t!

I started my life with the perfect cube on the left side. Each decision I took affected that cube in a way, some good, some in a bad way, and I reached the cube on the right side.

I understand that not every decision results in imperfection. But, there are so many different elements that make up our lives: health, relationships, work, finances, etc. How often do they come together, neatly creating that perfect square of color, not just on one side but on all?

Everybody goes through trials and tribulations and basically, it’s not about what happens to you, it’s what you do about it. We just don’t need to force it.

I remember times when I used to feel so frustrated with the Rubik’s cube. I just couldn’t get the hang of it. So one day I decided to peel all the colored squares off of the Rubik’s cube and stick them back on to make it look as though I had won, only to find out that It doesn’t really work that way. The edges of the peeled-off squares soon start to come out on their own, announcing my guilty secret: I had cheated.

I guess it’s the same in life. There is no point in cheating — the edges will only come out on their own if we force things. We just have to have faith in the knowledge that soon everything will change again and who knows what part of life will align and which will need a little work.

Before you know it, stuff starts coming together in your life and you get a couple of colors. You start hanging out with people like you and all of a sudden you’re life gets a little bit simpler. It’s never going to be easy but it gets a little bit more simple.

So when life feels good and things feel as though they are all coming together, I will smile because I know it was me that worked hard to get them there!

Well! I don’t have all of life’s answers.

It’s not that I think I got this figured out, but I do know that if you make enough of the right decisions life can get almost perfect again.

And in the end, I don’t suppose we really want all the squares to line up all the time, do we? If they did, the game would be over and where would be the fun in that? Sometimes patterns also look amazing, rather than a perfect cube.

I love creating patterns in Rubik’s cube. A Cube inside a Cube inside a Cube, tells us that there is always a core attached to everything, If we follow the path, we can reach our destination.

Life is full of things that don’t make sense, of course, and if there’s any sense of mastery in adulthood I suspect it’s less about true knowledge than the freedom to design our life without the discomfort of not knowing things. If a subject like geometry or composition was never your thing, you can choose a profession that will never demand it. You can opt for relationships that are familiar and comfortable, both in and out of the workplace. You can, if you so choose, create a life that feels engaged and challenging, but that artfully avoid anything that is truly out of your comfort zone.
